It was founded in Lucknow in 1936 with Sahajanand Saraswati as its first President. Its main demands included a 50% reduction in revenue rents, full occupancy right to tenants, abolition of beggar and restoration of customary forest rights, abolition of zamindari, etc. It involved prominent leaders like NG Ranga, Pandit Karyanand Sharma, Pandit Yadunandan (Jadunandan) Sharma, Rahul Sankrityayan, etc. In Bihar, Swami Sahajanand Saraswati organised the Bihar Kisan Sabha in 1929. A new nationwide awakening of the peasantry to their class defense occurred during the 1930s. The main forms of peasant mobilization were through meetings, conferences, demonstrations, peasant marches, the formation of Kisan Sabhas, non-payment of rent and taxes, and Satyagraha.
