Who is called Mahesh Bhupathi?

Mahesh Shrinivas Bhupathi is an Indian Tennis player. In Indian tennis sports history, he plays a the most dominant role in the doubles player. After his victory in the French Open in 1997, he becomes the first Indian player to win the grand slam title.

Early Life:

He started to play at a very young age. Mahesh got his encouragement from his father. He has two years of outstanding career from the University of Mississippi, earning singles and doubles. In 1995 he got the All-America honors and later on that year, he begins his tennis career. Mahesh Bhupathi was India’s national champion in 1994 and 1995. In 1994, he begins his great doubles partnership with countryman Leander Paes. The doubles in 1997 and 1998, out of 8 matches they won six Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

Career Details:

From 1994 to 1995, he was a member of the Indian Davis Cup team. Playing in mixed doubles with Japan’s Rika Hiraki, he won the Grand slam title for the first time. In 1999, along with Paes, he advanced to the Four grand slam event. The pair had won in Wimbledon and French Open. But lost in US Opens and Australian events. The pair has moved the upper rank in the following year. But the pair got separated because of some personal problems.

From 2002 to 2004, Bhupathi took five ATP doubles titles each year. This includes the U.S. Open championship with Belarus’s Max Mirnyi in 2002. After this, his play falls off and soon he dropped from the top 10 ranks in tennis. Mahesh Bhupathi was more famous and successful in his mixed double career in Grand slam events. Bhupathi has won five mixed double grand slam award from 1999 to 2006. Some of the partners include Switzerland’s Martina Hingis, France’s Mary Pierce and Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchová.

Other than that he won championships in the three Grand Slam tournaments. This gave him the title of career mixed doubles grand slam. In 2009 Australian open and 2012 French open he played with India’s Sania Mirza. Finally, he got retired from tennis in 2016. In the following year, he becomes the non-playing captain of the Indian Davis cup team.

Personal life:

Mahesh Bhupathi got divorced from his first wife in 2009. After that, he married Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta in 2011. In 2012 they got their first child named Saira. In 2010, they started a film production company called Big Daddy Productions. Then in 2014, he launched an authentic sports brand called ZEVEN. This company currently endorses the number of sportsperson which includes Mary Kom, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohan Bopanna and Ravindra Jadeja.

Then the skincare range from actress Lara Dutta. Also, they are planning to launch the makeup line with actress Malaika Arora.

  4. He won the Australian Open title in 2006. With that, he completed the mixed doubles career grand slam. Mahesh Bhupathi was the eighth male player to achieve this title.
  5. In the 2004 Olympics, Bhupathi got fourth place. After winning the Australian Open mixed doubles in 2006, he joined the group of 8 tennis players. They have achieved a great and successful career in the Grand Slam Mixed doubles.

  4. From December 2016, Mahesh Bhupathi was appointed as India’s next non-playing Davis Cup captain. He got the position from the successor Anand Amritraj.
  5. Mahesh Bhupathi was also part of the Hon. Board of Advisors of IIMUN.

Mahesh Bhupathi Retirement:

After spending a glorious period in tennis, he got retired from the sports world from 2016. Unless he was on holiday, he used to take care of his diet strictly. He has a clear vision of being an entrepreneur with his wife Lara Dutta.
