JNANESHVARA/JNANADEVA (1271-1296 AD)
He was associated with Krishna-marga sect. He wrote commentaries on Bhagavad Gita called Dyaneshwari or Bhavarthadipka and Amrutanubhav, which are considered to be milestones in Marathi literature.
NAMDEVA (1270-1350 AD)
He was a tailor by caste, opposed caste distinctions. He was associated with Varkari sect. He wrote many Abhangas (devotional poetry).
EKNATH (1533-1599 AD)
He was associated with Varhari sect. He wrote commentaries on the Ramayana which were called the Bhavartha Ramayana and another commentary on the 11th book of the Bhagavata Purana, known as Eknathi Bhagavata.
TUKARAM (1598-1650 AD)
He was associated with the Dharkari and the Varkari sects. He wrote devotional poems called Abhanghas. Shivaji has great admiration for him. He was a great devotee of Vitthal.
RAMDAS (1608-1681 AD)
He was born in the Jamb village, Ambad Taluka of Jalna district. He belonged to Dharkari sect. He compiled his writings and sermons in the Dasabodha.
PURANDAR DAS (1480-1564 AD)
A saint from Karnataka, he is known as the Father of Carnatic Music. He introducted the Raga Mayamalava gowla.
TYAGARAJA (1767-1847 AD)
Greatest saint, composer of Carnatic music from Tamil Nadu. Mention five of his compositions, known as the Pancharatna Kritis, often sung in programmes in his honour.
