5. MEWAR, MARWAR AND AMBER

MEWAR

Mewar was an old principality of minor importance under the rule of the Guhilot dynasty, with its capital Nagada. Although Ala-ud-din Khilji captured Chittor, the Capital of Mewar, in 1303 AD, it was soon restored by Rana Hamir, who established the rule of Sisodiya dynasty.

RANA KUMBHA (1433-68 AD)

The greatest ruler of the Sisodiya dynasty, carried out continous warfare against. Gujarat and Malwa. The first great ruler of medieval Mewar was Rana Kumbha. Some contemporary inscriptions and a literary work Ekling Mahatmya speaks of his military success. He wrote commentaries on Jayadeva’s Gita- Govinda and on Chandisatakam.

The greatest architectural monument of his reign was the Kirtistambha built by him at Chittor. He was murdered by his son, Uda, to gain the throne. He was famous for Kirtistambha or the Tower of Fame.

RANA SANGA (1509-28 AD)

His real name was Rana Sangram Singh. He defeated Mahmud Khilji II of Malwa and also Ibrahim Lodhi of Delhi at Ghatoli. H was defeated by Babur in the Battle of Khanua in 1527 AD.

MARWAR

Rao Chunda, who ruled from 1404 to 1421 AD, was succeeded b Jodha. Jodha built the fort of Jodhpur. Bikaner was founded b Bika, Malwa ruler and one of the sons of Jodha in 1465 AD.

AMBER OR AMER

Dullah Rao was the founder of the Kachhawaha dynasty, whic ruled Amber or Amer during this period. Hammir Deva was th most famous ruler of this dynasty.
