BIMSTEC – Observed 24th day – June 2021

The BIMSTEC organization has contributed to peace, stability and prosperity cooperation over the past 24 years.The Bay of Bengal (BIMSTEC) is a regional multilateral organization comprising seven South and South-East Asian countries for multidisciplinary technical and economic cooperation.

It is noteworthy that Sri Lanka holds the current chair of the BIMSTEC.

The 24th BIMSTEC (Bangladesh Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Day was observed on 6 June 2021 by BIMSTEC member countries including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand.

BIMSTEC with INDIA:

*Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that BIMSTEC has become a promising regional group and the organization has made progress on various fronts, including finalizing a master plan for the merger.
*India also noted the immense potential of the Bay of Bengal cooperation. Moreover, it helps control South and South East Asia, and the law contributes to East and Indo-Pacific policies.
*The Economic Camp was initially formed with the abbreviation ‘BIST-EC’ (Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand Economic Cooperation) with the four member states.
*Myanmar was added during a special ministerial meeting in Bangkok on December 22, 1997, and the group was renamed BIMST-EC (Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand Economic Cooperation).
*At the 6th Ministerial Meeting in Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan were included and the group was renamed the Bay of Bengal for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
