The digital platform ‘Kisan Sarathi’, in collaboration with Union Minister for Agriculture and Agrarian Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar and Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Aswini Vaishnav, helps farmers to get ‘Right information at the right time’ in the language of their choice.
*This portal was launched on the event of the 93rd Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Foundation Day, i.e. 16 July 2021.
*This initiative will enable ICAR to address farmers’ location-specific information needs and agricultural extension, education, and research activities.
*This portal is operated by Interactive Information Broadcasting System (IIDS), Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Key Points:
*Using the platform, farmers can use personalized advice on agriculture and related areas directly from the respective scientists of Krishi Vijayan Kendra (KVKs).
*Union Minister Vaishnav urged ICAR scientists to conduct research on new technological interventions in moving farmers’ crops from their gates to warehouses, markets and places where they want to sell with minimal damage.
*The Ministry of Railways is planning to reduce the time taken to transport crops.
