DRDO Successfully conducted the maiden trail of 5th generation python-5 short range Air-to-Air Missile (AAM) in goa.
The missile add air-to-air combat capability of India’s indigenous LCA Tejas (Light Combat Aircraft)..
Features :
*The Python-5 missile is an infrared guided missile manufactured by Israel’s Raphael Advanced Defense Systems and has a range of 20 km.
*This test confirms the advanced capability of the Derby Beyond Visual Range (PVR) medium range AAM missile, which has a range of 50 km.
About Python-5 air-to-air missile:
*Python-5 is the 2nd air-to-air missile of Israeli descent, integrated into the Tejas fighter aircraft, the first Derby medium-range air-to-air missile.
*The Derby is a radar guide weapon and is manufactured by Israel’s Raphael Advanced Security Systems.
*Shortly after the successful tests, a direct launch of the Python-5 missile was carried out on the Banshee (target drone).
*Prior to the tests, missile carrier aircraft tests were conducted in Bangalore to assess the integration of the missiles with the air systems.
*Both missiles achieved 100% hits on their targets
