The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully tested a ground-to-air Akash missile.
*The Akash-NG missile was tested from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) off the coast of Odisha, while the MPATGM missile was tested from a human portable launcher.
‘AKASH-NG’ Missile :
This new generation missile has a range of 60 km and can travel up to 2.5 times the speed of sound (2.5 Mac).
*The missile was developed by the Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad.
*This proves to be a booster for the Indian Air Force (IAF) air defense capability.
*The new generation missile is to be manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
MPATGM Missile:
MPATGM is lightweight. It has a maximum range of 2.5 km and its launch weight is less than 15 kg. This was created by the DRDO system.
*It is equipped with advanced avionics with a modern miniature infrared imaging seeker.
*The test completes the development of 3rd generation MPTAGM. It is reported that this will strengthen the combat capabilities of the Indian Army.
*It is manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
