Tamil Nadu has tabled the first special budget for agriculture, separate from the general budget tabled the day before the 2021-22 financial year.
*This is the first time in the 100-year history of the Tamil Nadu Legislature that a special budget for agriculture has been tabled.
Major Announcements:
*It is proposed in the budget to implement the “Kalaignar’s Anaithu Grama Oruginaintha Velan Valarchi Thittam” to ensure that all the villages in Tamil Nadu achieve agricultural development and self-sufficiency within a period of 5 years. The government has allocated Rs 250 crore for this project.
*A separate sector for organic farming is to be created.
*A separate museum for agriculture will be set up in Chennai to showcase the pride of agriculture to the younger generation. 2 crores has been allocated for this project.
*The Prime Minister’s Fazal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has allocated Rs 2,327 crore for the crop insurance scheme for the financial year 2021-2022.
*A new horticultural college will be set up at Jinur near Krishnagiri district and a yellow research center will be set up at Bhavanisagar near Erode.
*To provide free electricity to agriculture, the government has given Rs. 4508.23 crore has been allocated.
