FRIMS – Flood Reporting and Information Management System

Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua on May 8, 2021 launched the Real-Time Digital – Flood Reporting and Information Management System (FRIMS). As such, Assam is the first state to adopt an online flood reporting system.

FRIMS was developed jointly by the Assam State Disaster Management Agency (ASDMA) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The government has to follow important impact indicators during floods as it faces a severe flood every year.

Important of FRIMS:

*It is the state’s current manual flood control mechanism based on web and mobile application based technology, which will report floods daily online from May 15, 2021.

*Assam has a mandatory daily flood reporting system from May 15 to October 15, 2021.

*This real-time flood report will address the immediate need for data to address the immediate needs of vulnerable groups (such as children and women), based on which the government will provide financial assistance for recovery.

*This system provides information feed at source, instant alert based verification and automation at limited levels.

*It is noteworthy that ASDMA has already conducted the necessary training for the field operators of the Disaster and Disaster Management Organization (DDMA).
