Nobel laureate Amartya Sen has written a new book, “Home in the World”, to be published by Penguin Random House in July 2021. This book describes the early life of Amartya Sen and explores the concept of ‘home’.
*Amartya Sen opens the book with her grandparents growing up in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
*He also shares that Rabindranath Tagore gave his name ‘Amartya’ (i.e. ‘immortal’).
Amartya Sen:
*Amartya Sen was born in 1933 to the President of Bengal, British India. He is Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University.
*He was the first Asian to receive the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1998 when he was awarded the Welfare Economics Prize.
*In 1999, he received India’s highest award, the Bharat Ratna.
*In 2012 he received the United States National Humanitarian Medal.
*In 2013, he received the Legion of Honor, France’s highest award.
