IISc Scientists discover 2 species of Few Electron Bubbles (FEBs)..

Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore, Karnataka, have for the first time discovered two types of electron bubbles (FEBs) in superfluid helium. This study has been published in Scientific Advances

*The panel of scientists was held at IISC, Center for Nanoscience and Engineering (CeNSE) headed by Professor Ambarish Ghosh. Neha Yadav, a former Ph.D. student in physics; Other scientists on the team include CNSE Associate Professor Prosenjit Sen.
*It has been suggested that this discovery could serve as a model for studying the energy levels of electrons and the interactions between them in a substance that affects their properties.

FEBs:

*FEBs are nanometer-sized holes in liquid helium that contain only a few free electrons.
*The importance of this study became – the number, position, and interactions between free electrons dictate the physical and chemical properties of materials.
*By studying FEBs, scientists can better understand how some of these properties are manifested when a few electrons in an object interact with each other.
