India’s first Indigenous Motorised wheelchair vehicle developed by IIT Madras

IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Madras has developed India’s first domestic wheelchair vehicle, NeoBolt, which can be used even in random terrain (land).

*NeoBolt was developed by a team led by Sujatha Srinivasan of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Metrorail.
*Has commercialized the start-up Neopolt called ‘Neomotion’.
*To deal with the problems of ‘one-size-fits-all’ wheelchairs that cause restricted movement, damage to health, and reduce self-confidence.

Features of NeoBolt:

1.The maximum speed of the NeoBolt is 25kmph and it travels up to 25km per charge. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery.

2.The group has already launched a commercially similar motorized wheelchair ‘Neofly’. Neo fly has been converted to NeoBolt with additional safety and convenience features.

3.The NeoBolt wheelchair is comfortable and safe for users, as is the ‘low-cost mode’ of outdoor operation (compared to cars, auto-rickshaws or modified scooters).

4.It has suspensions to absorb shocks and allow the user to go through all kinds of terrain.
