The Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary is situated in Koonthankulam Village of Nanguneri Taluk in Tamil Nadu
History
The area with the Koonthankulam and Kadankulam Irrigation tanks was declared as the Koonthankulam bird Sanctuary in 1994. This Sanctuary is under the management and Protection of the Koonthankulam Village community .

Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary serves as one of the largest birds reserve especially for the breeding water birds in South India. This place is the main attraction for the tourists and bird lovers. Here the painted stork that comes from various places like East European countries and North India acts as the special treat to the bird lovers. In the months of January and February, nearly above 43 types of birds, including both the migratory and local birds visits this Sanctuary. This place serves as the attractive site, for the nature lovers, since the villagers make the good harmony with the birds. Other notable things are the Children Park, watch tower and Interpretation center available near this place. Then the walking and trekking in this area are available for the adventure lovers in this Park.
