One Nation,One Ration card Scheme (ONORC)

On June 21, 2021, the Supreme Court directed the States and Union Territories (UT) to extend the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ (ONRC) scheme to ensure food security and money by July 31, 2021.
Transfers and other welfare activities for migrant workers under COVID-19.

*The session of Justices Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah noted the difficulties faced by the 38 crore migrant workers around India, who make up a quarter of the country’s population during the second wave of COVID-19 due to lack of ration cards.
*The process of registering unorganized workers / migrant workers should be completed expeditiously

One Nation One Ration card:

*It was launched in June 2019 under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013 to allow migrant workers and their family members to purchase at a subsidized price from any fair price shop in the country.
*As on March 2021, 17 states have implemented the scheme and 4 states / UTs (Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and West Bengal) have not yet come under the scheme.
*ONORC is technology based on the user’s ration card, reference number and electronic points sale (ePoS).
