Papanasam Falls (Agasthiyar Falls)
The Papanasam Falls is situated in the Tirunelveli District in Tamil Nadu. This place is at a distance of 51Km from the Tirunelveli and 4Km from the Papanasam.
History
The formation of the Papanasam Falls, took place above the Thamirabarani river, which falls from an altitude of 120m. The Agasthiyar temple is located near this place. As per the order from the Lord Shiva, the saint came to Papanasam to make the balance of this world.
After the marriage, the Lord Shiva and the Goddess Parvati came before Agasthiyar Munivar, when he was doing the meditation. As the Agasthiyar Fall from the Western Ghats mixes with the river Thamirabarani river, people believe that the water has the medicinal properties. The Falls holds a flow of water throughout the year.
