PM Awas Yojana (PMAY) Housing Scheme

PMAJ scheme was launched by the Government of India and its main objective is “Housing for all” by31st March 2022 in the remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birthday. Under this scheme, they are planning to construct a 20million house across the nation. This scheme is divided into two sections, urban and rural.

Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban scheme it has 4331 towns and cities that include urban development authority, special area development authority, industrial development authority, development area, notified planning, and every other authority which is responsible for urban planning and regulations.

This scheme headway under 3 phases

  • In the first phase i.e from April 2015 to March 2017 expected to cover 100 cities in selected states and UT
  •  In the second phase from April 2017 to March 2019 will cover 200 additional cities 
  • At the final phase, remaining cities from April 2019 and March 2022 

Beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is Economically weaker section people and Low-income group.

For Low Income Group / Economically Weaker Section category:

  • The family must comprise husband, wife, unmarried son, or unmarried daughter.
  • The property should be co-owned by a female member of the family.
  • Annual income of a household must be within Rs. 3 Lakh and Rs. 6 Lakh.

There is an interest subsidy of 6.5% for this category.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin started to provide affordable houses to all rural people except Delhi and Chandigarh. Later it was renamed to Indira Awas Yojana in March 2016. Beneficiaries in North-Eastern hilly will receive up to Rs.1.2lakh. Hilly area, difficuilt areas, and Integrated Action Plan(IAP) provided up to Rs.1.3lakh. 

Tamil Nadu holds the second position in the overall state list, out of 9,112 crores with more than 2.52 lakh houses accomplished.
