Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana 2.0 (PMUY 2.0) scheme from the Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh.
*Under PMUY 2.0, users will be provided with an additional 10 million LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) connections. Millions of migrant families are also expected to benefit from the scheme.
*Under PMUY 1.0, the target of providing 8 crores free LPG connections to backward families has been set and achieved.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY):
PMUY is a flagship project of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG). It was launched on 1 May 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Balia, Uttar Pradesh.
*Purpose – To make clean cooking fuels like LPG available to rural and backward households
*Financial assistance of ₹ 1,600 per family provided by the Center to eligible families.
