Birth

Mylsamy Annadurai was born in Kothavadi of Coimbatore District in Tamil Nadu on 2nd July 1958.

Mylsamy Annadurai School and College life

Mylsamy Annadurai completed his schooling in the village Kothavadi. From the Government College of Engineering in Coimbatore, he got a Bachelor degree in Engineering in 1980.  Later in 1982, he got a Master’s degree in Engineering from the College of Technology in Coimbatore .

Mylsamy Annadurai Personal Life

He married Vasanthi. He has a son Gokul Kannan, who works in Bangalore .

Career

In 1982, Annadurai joined the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization). He gave his service as the spacecraft operation Manager in the IRS (Indian Remote Sensing) and INSAT (Indian National Satellite System). In 2004, he became the Program director for India’s Lunar probes Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2. For a period of 2011 to 2015, Annadurai was the lead for the five projects in IRS and SSS (Small Satellites Systems) schemes.

Then between the periods of 2015 to 2018, Annadurai was the head of the ISRO Satellite Centre in Bangalore. He was chosen as the Vice President for the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology in 2019.

Life Career

Mylsamy Annadurai got the ISRO job in 1982. In 1985, he became the Team leader for developing the S/W satellite Simulator. He was the Spacecraft Operations Manager in IRS-1A in 1988.  During the following year, he got into the IRS-1B Project. In 1992, he became the Spacecraft Operations Manager in INSAT-2A. He went to work to work as Spacecraft Operations Manager in the INSAT-2B in the following year.  

In 1994, he became the Deputy Project Director for the INSAT-2C Project. Then he worked as the Mission Director in the INSAT-2C Project in 1996. During the following year, he became the Mission Director on INSAT-2D. Then he gave his service as a Mission Director, for the projects INSAT-2E, INSAT-3B, GSAT-1 and INSAT-3E from a period between 1999 to 2003. In 2003, he became the Associate Project Director in EDUSAT project. Later, he worked on major Projects like Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2. In 2011, Mylsamy Annadurai became the Programme Director and in 2015, he became the Director of the ISRO Satellite Centre in Bangalore. In 2019, he got two designations namely the Vice President of the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science for Science and Technology and the Chairman of the National Research and Design Forum .

Project Chandrayaan to Moon

The first mission of India to the moon was Chandrayaan-1, which was launched by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). For the period between 2004 to 2008, Mylsamy Annadurai as a Project Director of Chandrayaan-1 guided the Engineers team for designing and progressing the project in ISRO. He had drawn the sketch for the Indian Planetary missions. He had shown the sample for the International Unity by uniting the international Organizations like JAXA, NASA and ESA to work under the directorship of ISRO. Under his guidance, the realization of this Project was made within the time limit and given budget. Then the launching of Chandrayaan-1 took place in October 2008 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota and operation was made till August 2009.

Mylsamy Annadurai Universities Awards

He had got the Honorary Doctorates from many Universities. Later he won the Eminent Scientist Award from the Madurai Kamaraj University at the 76th Indian Science Congress. In 2009, he won the Distinguished Alumni Award from the PSG College of Technology. He got the Hikal Chemcon Distinguished Speaker Award from the Annamalai University at the 63rd Annual Session of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers in 2010.  He was the awardee of the Sir CV Raman Award from the Periyar University. Again he got the Distinguished Scientist Award from the KC College in Mumbai.

Mylsamy Annadurai Achievements

Mylsamy Annadurai had given larger contributions in Projects especially Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan during his service of 36 years. He was in the list of 100 Global Thinkers of 2014 and was on the top on that list. Then works of him have been   mentioned in the 10th standard textbooks of the Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education.

In 2003, Mylsamy Annasamy got an ISRO citation for his work, he made with the INSAT systems Mission Management.  He won the Hariom Ashram Pretit Vikram Sarabhai Research Award for his works in the Systems Analysis and Space systems Management in 2004. Later in 2007, he won the Team Excellence award for his work in Indian Space Program.

Then the Government of Karnataka gave him the Rajyaotsava Prashastifor Science award in 2008. Later for his work in the Satellite/Spacecrafts field, he won the National Aeronautical Award in the same year. In 2009, he got the Space Systems Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in USA. Later, he won the NIQR Bajaj Award for the “Outstanding Quality Man 2009” and the H K Firodia awards. In the same year, he won the Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati National Eminence Award from the SIES (South Indian Education Society).

He won the Dinamalar-Unionor Achiever of the Year 2009. Then in the same year, he won the TNIE-Uninor Achiever award of the year 2009. Mylsamy Annadurai had won the ISRO Merit Award for the year 2009. In 2010, as the Team leader of the Chandrayaan-1 he won the Team Excellence Award. He won the Amara Bharathi National Eminence Award for the contribution he made in the Science and Technology.

In 2010, he won many awards from the various Universities. Later in 2011, he got the National Science and Technology Award from the Sathyabama University in Chennai. He was the awardee from the Dr.Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar Birthday Commemoration in 2012.

Mylsamy Annadurai won the Padma Shri award from the Government of India in 2016. He won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rotary International of Pollachi in 2019. In the same year, he got the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Muscat Tamil Sangam. From the Sri Adhi Sankara Peravai, he won the Sri Adhi Sankara Award for the year 2019.
