Birth

Na.Muthukumar was born to a Tamil teacher Nagarajan and Sivalakshmi on 12 July 1975 in Kannikapuram Village in Kancheepuram of TamilNadu.

Personal Life

He married Jeevalakshmi on 14th June 2006 in Vadapalani, Chennai. He had a son Adhavan and a daughter Yogalakshmi. He had a brother Ramesh Kumar.

Life stages

Na.Muthukumar was brought up in a middle class family in Kannikapuram Village at Kancheepuram.  When he was 4-years old, his mother died. From his childhood, he had a passion in reading. Later he studied at the Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai. He began his work below Balu Mahendra for four years. Later he got an opportunity to write lyrics for the movie “VeeraNadai” under Seeman’s direction. In 2007, he took a new role as the Dialog writer for the film “Kireedam”. Again in 2008, he wrote the dialog for the movie “Vaaranam Aayiram”.  He had written lyrics for more number of songs in several movies from 1999 to 2016.  Finally he wrote the lyrics for his movie “Sarvam Thaala Mayam” under the music direction of A.R Rahman.

He had written songs for several famous and hit movies like Run, Baghavathi, Dhool, Vaseegara, Sami, Paarthiban Kanavu, Thirumaali, Pithamagan, Gilli, Ayya, Chandramukhi, Kireedam, Pallikoodam, Azhagiya Tamil Magan, Deivathirumagan, 7aam Arivu, Oru kal Oru kannnadi, Thuppaki, Billa2, Thalaivaa, Kaaki Sattai, Sethupathi, Theri, 2.0 and soon. He had also written songs for Television serials like Jeyippathu Nijam, En Thozhi En Kaadhali En Manaivi and Appanum Aathaalum.

Achievements

He had been a writer, novelist and poet. Muthukumar had done work with many Tamil Music directors. For whom he had written more than 700 songs in more than 50 movies. He was one of the busiest lyricist in Tamil film Industry till his death. His movie songs on the emotions between the child and a father got huge appreciation from the audiences. Muthukumar songs got a great recognition from his fans. And he was the inspiration for the new lyric writers.

He had written several books like Dhoosigal, PattampoochiVirpavan, NewtoninMoondramVidhi, AAnaAavanna in which he had his poems. Similarly, he had written and published essay books like AniladumMundril and GraamamNagaramMaanagaram. His other books are VedikkaiPaarpavan and Viliyil mariya vali.

Na. Muthukumar Awards

Muthukumar won his first award “Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best lyricist” in the year 2005 for the film Ghajini. Later in 2011, he again won the “Tamil Nadu State Award for Best lyricist” for the writing lyrics for many films. In 2013, for the film Thangameengal, Muthukumar got the “Tamil Nadu Film Award for Best Lyrics”.

In the same year, Muthukumar won his first “National Film Award for Best lyrics” for the song “Ananda Yazhaai” in the movie Thangameengal. In the following year (2014), again he won the “National Film Award for Best Lyrics” for the song “Azhage” in the movie Saivam. His songs “Anandha Yaazhai” and “Azhage” won many awards in several award functions.  Apart from these, he had won several Television awards and other Film fare awards for his songs. His songs in movies like Ayan, Sivaji:The Boss, Engeyum Eppodhum and Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga have won the Television awards.

Death

Na.Muthukumar died on 14th August 2016 due to heart attack in his home in Chennai at the age of 41.  He had suffered from jaundice for a long time before his death.
