Siruvapuri sri Bala Subrahmanyam temple is located in the Thiruvallur District in Tamil Nadu. This Temple is near the Chennai Kolkata highway at a distance of 40Kms.
History of Temple
During the Ramayana period, after Goddess Sita came from Ayodhya she lived in an Ashram. The Lava and Kusha who were the sons of the Rama and Sita, lived here in this Place along with their mother Sita. When King Rama came to this place once, Lava and Kusha had a fight with him, without knowing that their father was Rama .Since they fought in a war being the children, this place was known as Siruvar Por Puri. In Tamil language, “Siruvar Por Puri” means children fight in a war. This name is gradually became Siruvapuri today.
In olden days, this place was also called Siruvar Ambu Edu, which now turned into Chinnambedu.
Story related to Temple
Many years ago, there was a woman who called Murugammai in this Siruvapuri Village. She was a strong devotee of Lord Muruga and was chanting the name of Muruga for years. The lady’s husband did not like the prayers and the worship made by her. He warned not to pray, but she did not follow the warning. For this reason, her husband got angry and had cut her hands. Out of pain, Murugammai prayed to Lord Muruga for help. On seeing her devotion, the Lord joined her hands back by healing the wound, without any sign of the wound. It is believed that the Lord would fulfill the wishes of the devotees if they pray in this Temple.
Architecture
The Siruvapuri Sri Bala Subrahmanyam Temple has a single prakaram and a big Rajagopuram which contains the five layers. Here the main God is the Bala Subrahmanyam with a height of 4.5 feet in a standing position. Then the other gods found in this Temple, are Maragatha Vinayakar,Muniswarar, Naagar, Venkatrayar, Bairavar, Navagraham and Suryanar. There is a special feature in this Temple is the Maragatha Mayil(Peacock in Tamil) which is made of the Green stone.
Unique feature of the Temple
Siruvapuri sri Bala Subrahmanyam temple has unique thing is that the images of all the God are graved on the emerald stones, except the God Muruga.

The main Festival in this Temple is Kanda Sasti Vizha with Soora Samharam, since this is a Murugan Temple. Then the other festivals of this Temple are the Kiruthigai, Prathosam, Sasti, Visakam, Amavasya, Tamil New Year, Vaikasi Visakham, Aadi Guru Poojai, Deepavalli. The Thai Poosam, Aadi Kiruthigai, Ayutha Pooja, Maha Shivratri and Panguni Uthiram are the other festivals.

The other famous nearer to this site, is the Periyapalayam Shri Bhavani Amman Temple. This Temple is famous for the large festival “Koozh Vaarthal” which is celebrated in the Tamil month of Aadi( starts from mid July to August) every year.

You can reach this Siruvapuri Sri Bala Subrahmanyam Temple through the buses or the taxi. The buses are available from the Thiruvallur Red Hills to this site. No trains available to this Place. So those who come through trains to Chennai, must reach the place Red Hills. From there, they must travel through the road transport. The nearest Airport to this Temple is Chennai International Airport.
