The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Ressa, a journalist from the Philippines, and Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov, a journalist from Russia, for their efforts to preserve freedom of expression, the prerequisite of democracy and lasting peace.
Maria Reza is the 18th woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
*The Nobel Peace Prize 2021 was announced by Berit Reiss-Andersen, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
*The prize consists of a gold medal and a cash prize of 10 million Swedish kronor (~ 8.5 crores), which will be shared equally among the 2 prize winners.
