As the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the newly founded WHO Foundation, Indian origin global health expert Anil Soni has been chosen. As of January 1, 2021, Soni will assume his new position.
A press release issued by the WHO Foundation confirmed that Soni’s main role in the new position would be to speed up the work of the WHO Foundation to invest in creative projects to support WHO’s missions to ensure safe lives and promote well-being for all.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described Anil Soni as a proven global health innovator, who has spent almost two decades in service of communities affected by HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.
He added that Soni has a unique skill set spanning the public and private sectors and that his WHO Foundation leadership would provide invaluable support for the missions of WHO.
