World’s Longest undersea cable built by Google – Firmina

Google has announced plans to connect the United States with South American countries by setting up an open subsystem cable.Subsea Cable is named “Firmina” in honor of the 1st Brazilian poet, Maria Firmina dos Reis.

*It is the longest subsea cable in the world, fully operational by a single power source if other power sources are temporarily unavailable.
*Firmina will connect the east coast of the United States with additional landings in Las Toninas, Argentina, and Priya Grande in Brazil and Punta del Este in Uruguay.

Features of Firmina:

*It uses 12 pairs of fiber optic cables to carry high speed data transport with the highest data protection.
*It is the longest cable capable of delivering single-end power.
*Provides less latency for Google services

Subsea Cables by Google:

*Along with Firmina, Google has invested in 16 subsea cable projects – Dunant (connecting the US with Europe), Equiano (connecting Portugal with Africa), and Grace Hopper (connecting – US, UK, and Spain).
*The Tunant submarine cable system is capable of delivering data at 250 Tbps (terabits per second).
