SSC – CHSL Exam

Combined Graduate Level Examination (in short known as CHSL Exam) is an examination conducted by Staff Selection Commission to select Higher Secondary qualified students for various departments and offices of the government.

  • Lower Division Clerk (LDC)
  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA)
  • Postal Assistant (PA)
  • Sorting Assistant (SA)
  • Data Entry Operator (DEO)
  • Data Entry Operator, Grade A

Eligibility for this Exam

Nationality/ Citizenship:

A candidate must be either:

(a) a citizen of India, or

(b) a subject of Nepal, or

(c) a subject of Bhutan, or

(d) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar),Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limit (As on 01-01-2022):

Age limit for the posts is 18-27 years as on 01-01-2022 i.e. Candidates born not before 02-01-1995 and not later than 01-01-2004 are eligible to apply (Age relaxation are there).

Education Qualifications:

Candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

Process of the Examination

Tier 1: Preliminary

The Tier I exam consists an objective multiple-choice questions with four sections, covering the subjects of:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning
  • General Awareness
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • English Comprehension

Each session has 25 questions for a total of 100 questions. Each question has 2 mark for a total of 200 marks.

Note :- For every wrong question there is a negative marking of 0.50 marks also.

Tier 2: Mains

Tier-II will include following three sections having two modules each:

  • Section I – 1hour duration
    • Module-I: Mathematical Abilities
    • Module-II: Reasoning and General Intelligence.
    • Each Module has 30 questions for each 3 mark. Total 180 mark.

  • Section II – 1hour duration
    • Module 1 – English Language and Comprehension has 40 questions.
    • Module 2 – General Awareness has 20 questions.
    • Each questions has 3 mark for the total of 180 mark.

  • Section-III:
    • Module-I: Computer Knowledge Test – 15 Minute duration
    • Module-II: Skill Test/ Typing Test – 10 Minute duration
    • Module-I has 15 questions has each 3 marks of total 45 marks
    • Skill Test/ Typing Test will be of qualifying nature.

Note:- As per SSC CHSL Marking Scheme, there will be a negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer in Section-I, Section II, and Module-I of Section III. It will be compulsory for the candidates to ace all the sections of Tier II.
