SSC – CGL Exam

Combined Graduated Level Examination (In short known as ‘CGL Exam’ or ‘CGLE’) is an examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit Group B and C officers to various posts in top ministries, departments and organizations of Government of India.

SSC CGL Post and Department/Ministry

1.Group “B” Gazetted Post

  • Assistant Audit Officer – Indian Audit & Accounts Department under C&AG
  • Assistant Accounts Officer – Indian Audit & Accounts Department under C&AG

2. Group “B” Non-Gazetted Post

  • Assistant Section Officer – Central Secretariat Service, Intelligence Bureau, Ministry of Railway, Ministry of External Affairs, AFHQ.
  • Assistant – Other Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations 
  • Inspector (Central Excise) – CBIC
  • Assistant Enforcement Officer – Directorate of Enforcement, Department of Revenue
  • Sub Inspector – Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
  • Inspector – Central Bureau of Narcotics
  • Junior Statistical Officer – M/o Statistics & Program Implementation
  • Statistical Investigator Grade II – Registrar General of India

3. Group “C” Post

  • Inspector of Income Tax – CBDT
  • Auditor – Offices under C&AG, CGDA
  • Accountant/ Junior Accountant – Other Ministry/ Departments
  • Senior Secretariat Assistant/ Upper Division Clerks  – Central Govt. Offices/ Ministries other than CSCS cadres
  • Tax Assistant – CBDT/ CBIC
  • Upper Division Clerks – Government Departments

Process of the Examination

Tier 1: Preliminary

The Tier I exam consists an objective multiple-choice questions with four sections, covering the subjects of:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning
  • General Awareness
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • English Comprehension

Each session has 25 questions for a total of 100 questions. Each question has 2 mark for a total of 200 marks.

Note :- For every wrong question there is a negative marking of 0.50 marks also.

Tier II: Mains Exam

SSC CGL Tier-2 exam will be conducted in 3 phases- Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3.

  • Paper I – Compulsory for all posts.
  • Paper II – candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation.
  • Paper III – candidates who apply for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.

Paper I has three section

  • Section I contains two modules – 1 hour
    • Module 1 – Mathematical ability
    • Module 2 – Reasoning and General Intelligence
    • Each Module has 30 questions for each 3 mark. Total 180 mark.

  • Section II contains two modules – 1 hour
    • Module 1 – English Language and Comprehension has 45 questions.
    • Module 2 – General Awareness has 25 questions.
    • Each questions has 3 mark for the total of 210 mark.

  • Section III also contains two modules
    • Module I – Computer Knowledge Test has 20 questions total of 60 mark. 3 mark per questions.
    • Module II – Data Entry Test ( Type 35 words per minute)
    • Above two modules are qualifying nature duration of 30 minutes. 15 minutes per module.

Paper II – Statistics

  • Paper II covers Statistics subject has 100 questions total of 200 marks,
  • 2 mark per question
  • 2 hours duration

Paper III – Finance and Economics

  • Paper III covers General Studies (Finance and Economics) has 100 questions total of 200 marks.
  • 2 mark per question
  • 2 hours duration

Note: For every wrong question There will be a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II and Paper-III
