The Coonoor is situated in Nilgiri District in TamilNadu. This place is at a distance of 19Km from Ooty, at the height of 1850m from the sea level.
History
The Coonoor along with Nilgiri Hill, is the habitat for Toda tribes for many years. This hill station became a popular place in the 19th century, when the British made Ooty as a famous Hill station. This place with the lush green area, is popular for hiking and trekking.
The Coonoor is a place with varieties of animals like the pipits, parakeets, skylarks, cormorants, thrushes and Nilgiri verditer. Then the bird watching is also famous in Coonoor. The Sim’s Park is the other place to see in Coonoor.

1) Nilgiri Mountain Railways
The Nilgiri mountain Railways is an attractive source, to enjoy in this place. This is the very oldest train service in India. This service begins from 9.15 A.M every day.
2) Hidden Valley
This is another sightseeing place in Coonoor, at a distance of 15Km from Coonoor. This service starts from 9AM and ends at 9PM.
3) Sim’s Park
This park at the Walker Hill road, is open from 9.00AM to 6.00Pm. The Sim’s Park mainly attracts the children.
4) Catherine Falls
The Catherine Falls is one of the prettiest waterfalls, in TamilNadu. This Falls surrounded by the dense rainforests, is situated in the Dolphin’s road.
5) Indian Bakery
The most popular Indian bakery functions here. This attracts the cake lover, coming to this place. This functions from 9AM to 6PM.
6) Droog Fort
The Droog Fort was once the outshield of the famous King, Tipu Sultan. This Fort is still there, in remembrance of him, which lies at an altitude of 2000ft from the sea level.
7)Katary Waterfalls
The Katary Waterfalls is the third highest and the two tiered waterfall in Nilgiris. It lies at a height of 55m from the sea level attracts the tourists. In this place, the first Hydroelectric Power Plant of India, operates to produce the electricity.
8) Acres Wild
This place is situated in Coonoor, is loved by the cheese lovers. The Acres Wild teaches you to make the Cheddar, Colby, Mozzeralla and Gouda.
9) Pony Needles
The Pony Needles is one among the needle manufacturers and largest knitting products in India. They have some of the craft kits, which helps to create bookmarks and the pouches.

The summer, winter and the monsoon are the three seasons in the Coonoor. The temperature in Summer, ranges from 23ºC to 37ºC. In winter, the temperature ranges from 10ºC to 20ºC.
Festivals
In the May month of every year, the vegetable and fruit show is held in this place. The tea and tourism festival is held each year.

From Chennai, you can take a road transport to come to this site. The nearest railway station is the Mettupalayam station, from where you choose the Nilgiri Mountain train, to reach Coonoor.
