‘Global Pandemic Radar’ – International pathogen surveillance network

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has announced plans to develop an advanced international pathogen surveillance network called the “Global Pandemic Radar” in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) to identify and detect new mutations in COVID-19.

*The announcement comes ahead of a global health summit hosted by Italy and the European Union.

Main Objective :

Its main purpose is to help detect new strains of COVID-19 and other emerging pathogens before they develop into future infections and to expedite vaccinations, treatments, and testing.

*The WHO organization, in collaboration with the Welcome Trust, leads an implementation team that identifies, monitors, shares and monitors vaccination resistance of new corona virus strains.
*The UK, under its current Presidency of the G7 (Group of Seven), works closely with global powers to detect new variants of COVID-19.
*The early genome sequence of pathogens is said to eliminate future infections and early vaccine development.
*Significantly, the Global Pandemic Radar is set to launch by 2021.
