Who is JEPPIAAR?

JEPPIAAR also is known as JPR is the founder of Sathyabama University. He started his career as a constable in the Police Department of Tamilnadu. Later entered in the politics and got the trust from former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran. He is considered as the man of success with wide ideology. JEPPIAAR’s father was Jesuadimai and mother Panimalar Ammal.

JEPPIAAR childhood:

JEPPIAAR was born on 11 June 1931. He was born in the Christian Mukkuvar community in Muttam which is in Nagercoil, Travancore Cochin Presidency. Now named the Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu.

JEPPIAAR education:

JEPPIAAR initially finished up to 8th standard and joined the politic and later in his years, he finished his doctorate degree. He achieved his education and degree in much later in life. Then he got his Bachelor of Law (B.L.) from Madras University and his Ph.D. from Anna University in late 2000s. Although he had little English knowledge, he never hesitated to address his audience in English.

JEPPIAAR’s policy:

JEPPIAAR was a trendsetter in many ways. He did ask the first question against the corporate recruiting policy. He mentioned it was a flawed policy. A decade ago, the IT industry used to recruit students base on their past and their performance from 10th, 12th and engineering. JEPPIAAR told the recruiters coming to his campus to select the students based on their performance and not their past. Also, he doesn’t approve his student to join in any BPO company rather he would encourage them to do post-graduation and join as assistant professors in his own institutions. He encourages the student that        “Entry is not important, the exit is important”.

JEPPIAAR career details:

JEPPIAAR born from a humble background rose to the top through his hard work and commitment. He had his 3c policy that he followed in his life called Confidence, Courage and Character. He always looks forward to the diversity in business. He was a self-made man and set up the Jeppiaar brand of purified water, milk, steel, cement, salt, a technopark, travel agency, ready mix concrete plant and even experimented with publishing a Tamil magazine. JEPPIAAR also acted in some of the movies. He got the privilege to open the first private harbor in Kanyakumari over a decade ago. Also, he got an idea of establishing a daily newspaper but could not take it forward. Although he got raised to the top, JEPPIAAR got criticized a lot for his past meteoritic rise in his business and in his life.

JEPPIAAR political career:

In former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, JEPPIAAR acted as one of the most important people in Tamil Nadu Legislative Council. He was one of the most trusted people for M.G.R. From 1972 to 1987, he acted as the Secretary of the Chennai District ADMK party. In his political career, he acted as the chairman of the Madras Water supply and Sewage Board. Then the Honorary services as Elected Member of Legislative Council and Director of Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation.

  • He also got “VALUABLE CONTRIBUTION TO ENGINEERING EDUCATION” in the leadership category.
  • JEPPIAAR is considered the pioneers in the privatization of engineering education in Tamil Nadu.
  • On his death, his net worth calculated as 3000 crores in Indian money.
  • JEPPIAAR is the founder and chancellor of Jeppiaar Educational Trust, Sathyabama University and Consortium of Professional, Arts and Science Colleges of Tamil Nadu.
  • The Sathyabama Institution he established in 1998 was the technical institution in Tamilnadu to get the privilege of getting the deemed to be university status.

JEPPIAAR and the Memorial Museum:

In the honor of JEPPIAAR, a museum got launched on the premises of sathyabhama university on 17 June 2017. Dr. Regeena Jeppiaar opened the museum just before the day of his first death anniversary. The museum was designed by the artist Mr. A. P. Sridhar. The number of people related to educational fields and the cinema industry has attended the inauguration. It is the first type of museum in India dedicated to the educationalist. It has the collection of various portraits and his achievements from various fields like academic, cultural, and social circles from his birth to his death.

JEPPIAAR Death:

JEPPIAAR died as 85 and cemented at the entrance of Stahyabama University. His funeral got attended by teachers, students, politician and various celebrities. On June 19, 2016, he felt breathlessness between 8.30and 8.5 pm. He got found dead on the way to the hospital. On the time he felt breathlessness, there is no expensive car found and no driver available. So he was taken to the Cauveri hospital emergency ward in Jeppiaar college bus. But on his way to the hospital in Perumbakkam, he found dead.
