Profile and Life History of Sylendra Babu

Birth  

Sylendra Babu was born on 5th June 1962, in Kuzhithurai of Kanyakumari District in Tamil Nadu.

Personal Life

Sylendra Babu married Sofia Sylendra Babu. He has two sons Diwan S.Babu and Adhiban S.Babu.

Education

He completed his schooling in Government Higher Secondary School in Kuzhithurai of Kanyakumari District.  Later he went to study B.Sc(Agri) in the Agricultural College and Research Institute in Madurai. Then he completed his M.Sc(agri) in the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore. He then got a B.G.LandMaster of Arts in Population Studies from the Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu. Then, from the University of Madras, he got the Ph.D for his thesis on Missing Children. Later he got a M.B.A degree in 2013

Career Details of Sylendra Babu

In 1987, he joined the Indian Police Service (IPS).He won the RD Singh Cup for Swimming at his training in the National Police Academy in Hyderabad.  Later in October 1989, he became the Assistant Superintendent of Police. In 1992, he became the Superintendent of Police. Then as a Superintendent of Police, he worked in Cities like Kancheepuram, Sivangangai, Chengalpattu and Cuddalore.  In 2001, he became the Deputy Inspector-General in Villupuram.

Later in 2007, he got the promotion as Inspector-General (IG). On 22nd April 2012, he became the Additional Director-General of Police in the ADGP of Prisons in Tamil Nadu.  In 2014, he headed a corps of 26 marine commandos at the half marathon event in the 2014 Auroville Marathon. On 11th March, again he got the promotion as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Railway Police.

Awards and Honors of Sylendra Babu

In 1997, he won the Prime Minister’s Medal for saving life 18 Bus Passengers, who fell in a Lake of District in January 1997. Then in 2004, he led the Special Task Force bravery medal on the forest Bandit Veerappan’s death. In 2005, he won the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service. He won the Blue Cross of India 2007 from Menaka Gandhi. Then he was the observer of the Athletics corps of India for the Summer Olympics, that held in Beijing.  

On 25th July 2008, he won The Best Alumnus Award at the Annual Convocation function held in the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore. In this function, he got the award for encouraging the Civil Service aspirants for the last fifteen years. Then on 26th January 2013, he won the President’s Police Medal for the Distinguished Service. On 15th August 2019, he won the Chief Minister’s Medal for the Public Service during the Independence.

Sports Activities

Sylendra Babu took the position of a Manager of the Indian National Athletic team at many events. In 2002, he was the Manager of the Indian National Athletic for the Asian Athletics Championship in Sri Lanka. He took the same role for the World Championships in Athletics for the year 2003 and 2007.  He was the President of the Throw ball Federation of India of Tamil Nadu. From February 2010 to 2011, he was the President of the Coimbatore Rifle Club at the time of his tenure.

Other activities

He had interests in sports like athletics, swimming, cycling and shooting. Sylendra Babu was a NCC cadet. He got to know about the Indian Police Service exams from his seniors who cleared the IAS exams. Mr.V.KSubburaj, Secretary of the Health was his prospector.  He made cycling from Chennai to Kanyakumari for a distance of 700Kms, when he was serving as the ADGP coastal security group. He went for 32 days cycling voyage from Kashmir to Kanyakumari as a part of the Central Government’s Swach Bharat campaign in 2017.

When he had been the Commissioner of the Coimbatore City, then he brought in the computer education program in many schools as an associate of the Lead India 2020. Under this program, the local Police Station adopts the Schools in the City. He initiated free Karate camps for the poor children and the children from the economically weaker background. He had also started the Karate camps in many women’s colleges.
