Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary
The Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary is one of the Bird Sanctuary situated in the Vaduvoor of Tiruvarur District in Tamil Nadu. This Bird Sanctuary is at a distance of 25Km from the Thanjavur and 30Km from Thiruvarur.
History
In 1999, this Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary was initiated. This Sanctuary has about 40 species of water birds like the Painted stork, Pintails, Herons, teals, Grey Pelican, Spoonbills, Coots, Open bill Storks, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Cormorants, etc. From the November month to December month, about 20000 visitors come to this place, since this is an attractive site for the migratory birds.
Special features
This Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary has a large irrigation tank, that gets water from the Mettur Dam from the August month to December month, during because of the northeast monsoon. Since the water availability is large from the November month to April month, a number of foreign birds from America and Europe arrive here. This Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary covers the total area of 128.10 hectares. This place gets an annual rainfall of about 1400mm. Then the Government had taken proper actions for the bird watching and the night stays.
Special Things to see
In this place, the wetlands have greater fertility, so about 38 species of 20000 birds come here. The open bill stork, cattle egret, pelican, grey pelican, pond heron, little tern, little egret, common keat, painted stork, and the kingfisher are some of the birds seen in this Sanctuary. At the winter time, many thousands of migratory birds come here. Then the nature lovers can enjoy the lakeside view along with the different sounds of the birds.
Best time to visit
To visit the Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary, the best time is from the November month to February month. But the season for the birds starts from the August month to February month.

To visit this Sanctuary, people can go to the Thanjavur. Since this Sanctuary is situated at a distance of 25Km from the Thanjavur city. If you come through the train, you can reach the Thanjavur station. From there, you can reach this Sanctuary. The nearest Airport to this site is Thanjavur Airport and the Trichy Airport. But the Trichy is at a distance of 75Km from this Sanctuary. So you can choose the Thanjavur Airport. From there, you can pick a road transport to reach this Sanctuary.
