World Bio-fuel Day

  • The World Bio-fuel day is recognized on August 10 by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas from 2015.
  • The main idea is to create awareness of non-fossil fuels as a replacement to conventional fossil fuels. 
  • Theme of World bio-fuel day 2020 is ‘Biofuels Towards Atmanirbhar Bharat’
  • The day is being recalled for the research experiment done in the year 1893 by Sir Rudolf diesel, who functioned engine with a peanut oil also predicted that in the next century, vegetable oil to replace fossil fuels in different mechanical engines. 
  • On the day Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary Shri Tarun Kapoor said that there are opportunities to produce bio-fuel in our country focusing three important areas Bio-diesel, Biogas, and Ethanol since we owe a large number of agricultural residues.
  • The import of crude and gas can be reduced if we exploit these, three bio-diesel, biogas and Ethanol
  • Bio-fuel has valuable benefits such as increased income for farmers and employment, reduces the import dependency and ensure a clean environment
