The Yercaud is one of the Hill station, which is located in Salem District in TamilNadu. This place is a major tourist site, best suits for the holiday trip.

History of Yercaud

The Yercaud is one of the Hill stations, with the beautiful cliffs in its surrounding. The Botanical garden, summer festival, orchadium, wild organisms and the grown crops in the hill station, are the special things to see in this place. Here the crops like the jackfruit, orange, coffee, black pepper, cardamom and guava are grown in this area. The wild animals like the fox, bison, deer, squirrels, sparrows, swallows , kites and bulbuls are seen here. Things to see in Yercaud

              There are various things to see in this place.

1) Bears Cave

              The major part of the cave is located at 7 feet, under the ground level, which contains the deeper valley, that leads to the cave in the Shervaroyan Temple.  Here the saplings in the horticultural farm, the saplings are available at  a reasonable cost.                     

2) Kiliyur waterfalls

              The Kiliyur waterfalls is situated at a distance of 3 Km from Yercaud Lake.  The excess water from the Shervaroys and the Yercaud Lake reaches this place,  at the Monsoon period.

3) Sri Raja Rajeswari Temple

This Sri Raja Rajeswari Temple is located at a distance of 4Km, from the Servarayan Temple. Here the deity is Goddess to all the Gods, who is said to give the wealth and prosperity, if one prays her.

4) Lady’s seat

              In this place, you can see the natural formation of rock, in the form of the seat. It is believed that a British Lady spent her time once, seeing the beauty of the peak.

5) Anna Park

              This Park near the Lake, hosts the Flower Show in the May month. The Japanese Park, inside this Park attracts the visitor.

6) Servaroyan Temple

              The Lord Perumal is the main deity in this cave Temple. This Temple celebrates the festival in the May month, in which thousands of tribal people participate.

Climatic conditions

              The Yercaud experiences the summer season between the March and June month, with a temperature ranging between 10ºC  to 29ºC .  Then the monsoon starts from July month and ends with the September month. This place experiences the Winter season between the October and February month, with the temperature ranging between 13ºC to 25ºC.      

Other places to see

              The Yercaud Lake, Pagoda Point, 32-Km loop road, Rose Garden, Annamalaiyar Temple view, Silk farm,  Kottachedu Teak forest, Tipperary view point, Karadiyur view point and the Deer Park are the other places to see in this area.

Best time to visit in Yercaud

              The best time to visit the Yercaud is from October to April month, as this season has a pleasant climate. This winter season, is perfect to make the outdoor activities and the sightseeing. The new year time( from December to January) and the Summer time (from May to June) are the peak seasons in Yercaud with more number of tourists. During the New year season, a number of visitors, visit this place.             

Entrance fees

They charge Rs.10 for Children and Rs. 25 for still camera in the Anna Park.

Transport facilities  in Yercaud                  

The Yercaud is connected to major cities like the Chennai, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Trichy. So the buses are available from many parts to reach Yercaud. The Salem Junction, is the nearest railway station, to reach the Yercaud. If you travel through the train, then reach the Salem station, which is at a distance of 31Km. From there, you can reach the Yercaud through a road transport.  The nearest Airport to Yercaud is the Salem Airport  , which is at a distance of  46Km . From there, you can pick a road transport, to reach this site. Otherwise, you can reach Tiruchirapalli International Airport, which is at a distance of 172Km.
