The river Bhavani emerges from the Nilgiri Hills in the Western Ghats and starts the journey from the Silent Valley in Kerala. This river serves as one of the main tributaries of the river Kaveri. This is also the second biggest river in Tamil Nadu.

The river Bhavani is one of the perennial river that runs for about 217Km. This river Bhavani and its basin cover an area of about 620000 hectares of land. Dams across the river
There are many Dams that have been constructed across this river. They are Bhavanisagar dam, Kodiveri Dam, Kanjirapuzha Dam, Mannarkkad and the Siruveni Dam.
The Kodiveri Dam is situated at the Gobichettipalayam in TamilNadu. This Dam was constructed in the year 1125A.D by Kongalvan.
The Bhavanisagar Dam is one of the earthen Dam, situated in the Erode District of Tamil Nadu. After India’s independence, the lower Bhavani Project as a major project for irrigation began in India. This Dam was built at a budget of Rs.210 million.This Dam has a large reservoir with a capacity of 930000000 m3. Then the Dam has 2 hydro Power stations that generates the Power. Both these Power stations can produce 16 megawatts power each, thus generates 32 megawatts.
The Kanjirapuzha Dam is situated in the Palakkad District in the State of Kerala. This river irrigates the land of 9173 hectares in Kerala. Then the reservoir of this Dam manages three islands, that had started the fishery development programmes organized by the Fishery Department.
