The Ennore Thermal Power Station is situated in Ennore in Tamil Nadu, which is the coal based Power plant.
History
The Ennore Thermal Power Plant is one of the four main Thermal Power plants began by TANGEDCO in 1970. In 2007, the 1000MW(1,300,000 hp) plants were installed on this premises. In the month of November in the same year, a 500MW coal unit was started.
Features of the Power plant
This Power plant has an advantageous plant for treatment for the disposal of the ash slurry in a correct procedure. Here there are two units, the 110MW and the 60MW in this station. For the combustion, this gets the coal from the MCL(Ib Valley and the Talchar), Raniganj, ECL, West Bengal and the Orissa. For the year 2008 to 2009, the plant load factor(PLF) was 49.17 percentage. Then the total cost of this project was Rs.270 crores. On 31st March 2017, the Plant was shut down with the idea of replacement.
Capacity of Power Generation
The Ennore Thermal Power Plant has a total capacity of 450MW, on comparing the 3*110 MW and the 2*60 MW units.
Source of raw material
In all the Thermal Plants, the coal is used as the raw material. This Plant gets the coal from the Eastern coal field Limited and the Mahanadhi coal field (IB Valley, Talcher).
Shutdown
The TANGEDCO Board has got approval on 4th July 2013, to shut down the Unit V permanently until the station decommissions. Then the proceedings of the TANGEDCO on 31st October 2016, had got the resolution to keep the permanent shutdown of the Units 1 to 4. Finally on 16th November 2016, for 20-31 hours, the generation of all the Units were stopped.To obtain more information about other famous power station Muppandal.
