Neyveli Thermal Power Plant

Neyveli Thermal Power Plant

The Nuclear Thermal Power Station is located in the Neyveli near Kudankoolam in Tamil Nadu. This Nuclear Station contains two Power plants.

History

Station 1

The Neyveli Thermal Power Station 1 has the ability to generate 600MW.  This Plant contains the boilers from the Taganrog Metallurgical Plant, the Generators from the Electrosila and the Turbines from the LMZ. They were  the imported equipments, from the Soviet Union. To Know more other famous power generation muppandal

Station 2

The Neyveli Thermal Power Station 2 with the 1470MW capacity, was built in two phases, in March 1986 and March 1988 respectively. These units had the capacity to produce the 210MW each. The Generators were brought from the Franco Tosi and the Boilers  from the Ganz-Danubius. The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited supplied the 4 units of same capacity from the March 1991 to June 1993. Then the two units with 250MW capacity were installed by the BHEL under the Stage-2 expansion. They use the CFBC ( Circulating fluidised Bed Combustion) boilers.  The eco-friendly Circulating Fluidized Bed combustion(CBFC) is used in the steam generators which takes 250MW capacity units for the first time in our country.

Extension in the Power plant             The model contains the two units with a capacity of  250MW each. Then the Unit 2 achieved the commercial operation in April 2015, while the Unit 1 in July 2015. The Mine-2 expands the need for the lignite.  Disaster A High Pressure steam heater of the turbine package had burst in the Unit of the Thermal Power Station 1 on 20th May 2014. This killed an engineer and five others. The three out of the five only survived in that incident.

Power Generation Capacity

The Neyveli Thermal Power Station contains the two main units. They are the Neyveli Thermal Power Station 1 and the Neyveli Thermal Power Station 2 with the ability to generate 1020MW and 1970MW. By December 2014, the total installed capacity was 2990MW, which is operated by the NLC.

Cost

The cost of the Mine 2 of the Neyveli Nuclear Power Station was Rs. 2295.93 crores.
